Chaz Davies has become World Supersport Champion 2011. The Yamaha ParkinGO rider has achieved his dream, in a season where he has dominated throughout the year. Chaz has been impeccable during the championship but started in the worst way possible when a tire problem put him out of the race in Phillip Island winning his teammate Luca Scassa.

When the European season started, the first important result, second race in front of his fans, was second on the back of his teammate. At Assen, comes the first victory in Supersport and three weeks later another one in Monza. In Misano the Yamah ParkinGO rider had to defend himself but comes back to the top of the podium after in Aragon, and then getting a third place in Brno before stepping again in the top of the rostrum twice in Silverstone and Nurburgring. At Imola a technical problem doesn’t allow him to close the championship forced to park the bike when leading the race. Leaving Imola with 35 points advantage going into the final round, where he rode an intelligent race, finishing sixth, enough to give him the world championship title and celebrate it with his teammate Luca Scassa that today came back to the top.

THE RACE

At the green lights Scassa and Davies placed themselves on the top positions where the advantage was taken by Parkes. On the back, Scassa was fighting with Roccoli while Davies comes to third position. Then Roccoli’s bike suffers a technical problem and has to abandon the race. Davies on the back of him is forced to close gas giving Parkes the chance to take the advantage of two seconds that he had lost and forming a group of three fighting for the top positions. Fabien Foret, the main adversary of Chaz for the championship title, was heading the second group of the race. Scassa becomes the perfect shield backing up the British rider till half way through the race where the Italian understands that the others are too far to catch his teammate. Was then when Luca makes an impressive move to the lead first with Lowes and then Parkes who was overtaken four laps to the end and keeping the lead all the way to the chequered flag. Davies meanwhile avoids all risk and lets Salom and Ellison go past, finishing in sixth position. Then party along the track, at the box, in the podium…the tension of a great day that the Team will never forget….

Chaz Davies - Yamaha YZF R6 #7 - 2011 Supersport World Champion - “I have worked for this during 15 years. It’s an incredible day. I am world champion even though I still have to think about it twice to believe it. Giuliano Rovelli offered me a chance and I have been able to pay him back, making our dream come true. We have won thanks to the work of the whole team that gave always 110%. I would like to thank Luca Scassa, he has been a great teammate. Today he has protected me for the most of the race risking not the victory. It has been an incredible season that will remain in my mind forever…”.
