Strong field for Muntjac Opener

This weekend sees the start of the ACU Metzeler Enduro Championship with the opening round being run by the Diss MCC club at Thetford Forest. Diss MCC and long term event sponsors EMG Motors Group and new associate sponsor KIA will be hoping for a great start to the season in the first major long course enduro of the year. The opening round of the 2011 series has seen an entry of over 230 riders looking to start their championship hopes off in the best manner.

The Government announced on 17th February that the proposed consultation into ‘privatising’ of thousands of acres of state-owned woodland in England had been dropped by ministers. This has been strongly welcomed by the Auto Cycle Union (ACU) The overhanging threat of forestry land being sold and the impact on motorcycle sport within England has been a matter of deep concern for the ACU and the Industry over recent months.

The ACU’s Trials and Enduro Department are excited to be expanding the ACU British Cross Country Championship for 2011. After last year’s successful introduction of this new Championship the ACU have decided to continue working with the same organisers to build on the series successes. For 2011 an additional round has been allocated to RideOffRoad UK which will see the Northern based riders are well catered for. The dates and venues for the 2011 ACU British Cross Country Championship have now been confirmed and are as follows:

The procedure in the past for riders stopped for a spot sound test was that riders were given a 10 minute delay allowance, and had to wait until this 10 minute delay allowance had expired before proceeding.

Saturday night 13th February at the Healds Hall Hotel, Heckmondwike, saw Julian Ford formally elected as Yorkshire Centre Auto Cycle Union President, taking over the reins from Bumpy Trials Club boss and outgoing President, Carolyne Kenzitt. After enjoying a hearty meal and an entertaining speech by Colin Appleyard Motorcycles MD Stuart Feeny, the awards were presented by Carolyne to winners of all ages from trials, enduro and road racing. For most competitors it will likely be remembered as the ‘one dry day, one wet day’ event but while the opening two rounds of the 2011 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship were very different in terms of the weather conditions one thing remained during both days – great racing action. With a true forest based enduro special test laid on by the organising GMC Events team the Saints Well based event in Mid Wales was certainly an eventful one…

Mike Brown joins 2011 BSEC series opener

US off-road racer Mike Brown, known by many as the world’s most successful motocross/supercross/off-road racer, will be competing in the opening two rounds of the 2011 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship taking place in Mid Wales this coming weekend. In the UK to compete in the British Supercross Championship, Brown will add a one-off BSEC outing to his schedule, using the event as training for his participation in the US WORCS series.

The first round of the ACU’s newest enduro championship started at the rain soaked Snowrun Enduro organised by Welsh Trail Riders Association in the Crychan Forest between Builth and Llandovery high in the Cambrian Mountains.

The 2011 International Six Day Enduro (ISDE) will take place in Finland during the period 8 –13 August.

All riders who are interested in being considered for selection to ride in either the British Trophy or Junior teams for 2011 are invited to submit their interest in writing to the Team Manager before the new extended deadline of the 14th February 2011. Particular interest is encouraged by riders that will be eligible for selection to the Junior team (under 23). Showing interest at this stage is not a commitment to ride.

With a little over one week to go before the opening two rounds of the 2011 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship get under way at Saints Well in Mid Wales on February 12/13 the stage is set for what is certain to be an exciting and hard fought series opener. In the Elite class defending champion David Knight (KTM) is back for more sprint action where he will not only go up against his two closest challengers from ’10 – Greg Evans (KTM) and Daryl Bolter (KTM) – but also newcomers to the championship Tom Sagar (KTM) and Paul Edmondson (KTM). And with top British motocross racer Tom Church (CCM) also putting himself in the mix things are set for an electrifying opening two days.
